What a Quota period is
A Quota period is the shorter of your billing interval and one month. On Free your Quotas reset on the 1st of each month. On Pro weekly they reset every seven days, on the day you are billed. On Pro annual they reset every month, on your subscription’s monthly anniversary — so a year of writing cannot be spent in January.
When you reach a Quota you are stopped and told the date it resets. There is no overage and no surprise bill.
Never metered, on any Plan
Your own work is never held behind a Quota. These cost nothing on every Plan, including Free:
- Uploading a Source — PDFs, web pages, and books
- Searching 250M+ papers and saving what you find
- Citing, in APA, MLA, or Chicago
- Export — Word, LaTeX, and print/PDF
Why Free currently looks so generous
The free Quotas above are still set at their beta level, which on some rows matches or beats Pro. That is not a mistake in the table: you are always held to the greater of your Plan and any grant on your account, so paying can never give you less than Free.
When the free Quotas come down to their launch numbers, this page changes with them — it reads the same table the product enforces, so what is published here is what you get.
