Privacy policy

Your writing is yours. Here is what we do with your data.

Last updated November 1, 2026. EthiWrite (ethiwrite.com) is an AI writing assistant for students and researchers. This page explains what we collect, why, who helps us process it, and how to delete it.

What we collect

Your account. Your email address, which you use to sign in with a magic link. For security, each sign-in session records the IP address and browser it came from.

Your work. The documents you write, the sources you add to your library (the text we extract from an uploaded PDF, its file name, and citation details such as authors, year and DOI), and the papers you save from search.

How you use EthiWrite. How many AI suggestions you have used against your plan’s limit, and any thumbs up or down you give a suggestion, with a short excerpt of it.

Payments. If you subscribe, Stripe handles your card details. We never see or store your card number; we keep your plan and subscription status.

Site visits. Advertising and analytics tools record visits to our site, as described below.

How the AI features use your writing

When you use an AI feature (autocomplete, the Guide, chat, the examiner or the grammar check), the relevant part of your document and your sources is sent to an AI model through OpenRouter, which passes it to the model provider to produce the response. Those providers process it under their own terms.

EthiWrite does not sell your writing and does not use it to train AI models. Matching your claims to passages in your sources runs on our own servers.

When EthiWrite looks for papers, it sends search terms to the scholarly databases OpenAlex, Crossref and Unpaywall.

Advertising and analytics

Meta Pixel. We use Meta’s Pixel to see which Facebook and Instagram ads bring people to EthiWrite. It records the pages you visit on our site and when a new account is created, and Meta may link this to your Meta account through cookies. It never receives the content of your documents. You can manage how Meta uses this in your Facebook or Instagram ad preferences.

Microsoft Clarity. We use Clarity to understand how people use the site, through session recordings and heatmaps of clicks and scrolling. The writing workspace (your essay, chat, Guide and sources) is hidden from recordings.

Both tools set cookies. You can block or delete them in your browser settings; EthiWrite works without them.

Who processes your data for us

We share data only with the services that run EthiWrite, and only what each one needs: Railway (hosting and database), Cloudflare (network and security), Resend (sign-in emails), Stripe (payments), OpenRouter and the AI model providers it routes to (AI features), Meta (ad measurement) and Microsoft (Clarity analytics).

We do not sell your personal information.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your account and work for as long as you have an account. You can delete any document or source in the app at any time.

To delete your account and everything in it, email hello@ethiwrite.com from the address you sign in with. You can also ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct it, the same way.

Children

EthiWrite is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email us and we will delete it.

Changes and contact

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page, and tell account holders by email about significant changes. Questions: hello@ethiwrite.com.

Your ideas. Your sources. Your words.

AI guides. You write.
