Jenni AI vs Yomu AI: which is better for students?

Pick Jenni AI if you want a free plan with a daily allowance and to keep more of the writing in your own hands. Pick Yomu AI if you want the tool to write the draft and you're ready to pay for that.

On paper they look alike. Both keep a library of your sources, both search for papers and insert citations, and both put AI-written text into your document. The real differences are how far each one goes, how easily you can trace a citation, and what you end up paying.

Citations: can you trace them?

Both tools cite from two places: the sources you've added and their own search. Jenni AI brings papers in from PDF uploads, Zotero or Mendeley, or its search of 200M+ papers, and formats them in 10,000+ styles. Yomu AI saves sources to a library you reuse across documents, finds new ones through a search powered by Sourcely, and covers 700+ styles.

Jenni pulls ahead on tracing. It connects each AI-suggested sentence to its location in the source PDF, and you can limit autocomplete to your own library so its suggestions draw only on papers you picked. GPTZero, which sells an AI detector, found its citations accurate in a short sample. For Yomu, a review based on public information likes having drafting and citations in one workspace, but warns the citations still need checking against the sources.

How much each one writes for you

This is the biggest gap between them. Jenni AI's autocomplete writes sentences for you to accept, one after another, and that adds up. In GPTZero's review, a 250-word introduction came together mostly from accepted suggestions, and an AI detector flagged all of it as AI-generated (GPTZero sells a detector of its own).

Yomu AI goes further by design. Describe the paper and the new-document flow “writes a full, researched draft”, and the Document Assistant helps “write entire sections”. Its own ethics statement asks you to use it alongside your writing, “not as a replacement for” it. If your course bans AI-generated text, neither tool is safe on autopilot, and Yomu will hand you a whole draft if you ask for one.

Feedback on a draft

Yomu AI added Get Feedback in September 2026. It runs focused academic reviews of your draft, and you can preview the suggestions and apply them. Applying one changes your text, so read it first and decide whether the new wording is still yours.

Jenni AI's plans include Reviews (three on the free plan, ten a month on Plus, unlimited on Pro), but its plans only count them without describing them, so this round is hard to call. What Jenni does have is an AI chat that reads your library and answers with citations, which is handy for testing a claim against your own sources.

Pricing and the free plan

Jenni AI has a free plan: 10 autocompletes a day, 10 PDF uploads, 3 AI edits, 5 AI chat messages and 3 Reviews, with unlimited citations. It's small, but enough to try the editor on a real assignment. Plus is $12 a month and Pro, which is unlimited, is $29. Jenni offers a discount for annual billing without showing the annual price.

Yomu AI lists no free plan for its editor, although its pricing FAQ says you can start for free to try the service. Pro is $10 a month billed annually ($120 a year) or $21 month to month, with 1,000 AI actions a month. Ultra is $17 a month billed annually or $35 monthly, with no cap. Since Jenni doesn't show its annual price, check which billing period you're looking at before you put the two side by side.

Whichever you choose, note the renewal date. Billing is the most common complaint about Jenni on Trustpilot, where reviewers describe renewals charged without notice and refunds refused. Yomu has a single Trustpilot review, and it complains about a renewal without notice too.

Which should you choose?

Choose Jenni AI if you want a free plan to start on, citations you can trace back to the place in the PDF, and an autocomplete you can hold to your own library. It suits a student who wants help drafting, tied closely to papers they chose.

Choose Yomu AI if you want a researched draft or whole sections written for you, feedback you can apply in the editor, and a choice of models from several AI providers, and you're ready to pay once you've tried it.

If neither fits because you want to do the writing yourself, EthiWrite is the tool we built for that. Its autocomplete stops at a sentence of about thirty words, it cites only from sources in your Library, and Examiner Mode flags weak evidence without rewriting anything. It formats APA, MLA and Chicago only, so it's a step down from both of these if you need another style.

FAQ

Is Jenni AI or Yomu AI free?
Jenni AI has a free plan, with 10 autocompletes a day and 5 AI chat messages among its limits. Yomu AI lists no free plan for its editor, though its pricing FAQ says you can start for free to try it, and it offers separate free tools such as an essay outline generator, a paraphrasing tool and citation generators.
Which is cheaper, Jenni AI or Yomu AI?
It depends on how you pay. Yomu AI Pro is $10 a month on annual billing and $21 month to month. Jenni AI lists Plus at $12 a month and offers an annual discount without showing the annual price. For unlimited use, Jenni Pro is $29 a month, and Yomu Ultra is $17 a month billed annually or $35 monthly.
Will Jenni AI or Yomu AI write my essay for me?
Yomu AI will: describe the paper and it writes a full, researched draft. Jenni AI writes sentence by sentence through autocomplete, which can add up to whole passages if you keep accepting. Either way, check your school's AI policy before you hand in text a tool produced.
Are Jenni AI's and Yomu AI's citations reliable?
Treat both as leads to verify: each can cite from its own search as well as your library. A short-sample test found Jenni's accurate, and Yomu's reviewer still wants them checked against the sources.
