Alternatives
MyEssayWriter.ai alternatives for writing your own essay
MyEssayWriter.ai sells finished essays two ways. The AI writer turns a topic, academic level, essay type, citation style and word count into a complete essay, downloadable as a Word doc with a title page and references. Or a human expert writes it for you, “delivered in 3 hours”. Its own disclaimer says the essays “should not be presented as one’s original work”.
So the alternatives are a different kind of tool. EssayGenius is the nearest swap, an essay editor with sources from real academic databases, though it will still draft a whole essay if you ask. Jenni AI and Paperpal help you find and cite papers as you write, and Grammarly, Thesify and Trinka check what you've written. EthiWrite, which we make, won't write paragraphs from a prompt at all.

What goes wrong with MyEssayWriter.ai for coursework
The marketing is aimed at getting past checks. The site says its output performs “well across all major AI detectors” and sells a Humanizer for “assignments with strict AI policies”. Put that beside its own disclaimer and the tension is plain: the tool is built for the one situation it tells you not to put yourself in.
Citations are the second worry. The site says it “finds real scholarly sources” without naming the database it searches, and its essays carry the warning “Essays may cite sources that require verification”. In Techpoint Africa's June 2025 test, the generated essays had no in-text citations or reference list at all. That review page carries an unnamed partnership label, so weigh it accordingly.
Independent opinion is thin. On r/studytips, one glowing “review” post drew a one-word reply, and a negative review of the human-writer service turned out to be pushing a rival essay service.
What it does well is speed and packaging. Techpoint's reviewer found the essays quick, well-structured and readable, while saying they need a careful edit. The site bundles 30+ tools, including an outliner, a thesis statement generator and a plagiarism checker, and paid plans carry a 7-day money-back guarantee.
What to look for in a MyEssayWriter.ai alternative
Help before the draft, not instead of it
Outlining and shaping a thesis statement are where a tool can help most without taking over. Look for help that leaves you choosing the argument and writing the sentences.
A source you can name
If a tool won't say where its sources come from, every reference is a guess you have to check. Prefer a named database, a DOI or a link to the paper, and a way to open the passage.
Meters that fit how you'll use it
MyEssayWriter.ai meters generated words, from 50,000 a month on Starter. For your own writing, look at what a tool rations instead: feedback reports, searches, suggestions. That's what you'll run out of.
The best MyEssayWriter.ai alternatives
1. EthiWrite
Full disclosure: this is our tool.
Where MyEssayWriter.ai hands you a finished essay, EthiWrite won't write paragraphs from a prompt at all. Its Autocomplete offers a sentence at a time, up to about thirty words, and nothing enters the essay unless you accept it. Citation labels are built from the source record for sources in your Library, never composed by the model.
Before you submit, Examiner Mode maps the argument and flags unsupported claims and thin evidence, and it can't rewrite anything. There's a free plan, and searching papers and citing are never metered. The limit: every quota is finite on every plan, so there's no unlimited tier like MyEssayWriter.ai's.

EthiWrite editor with the Guide panel open (demo account, email blurred). Best for: Students who need to hand in an essay they can honestly call their own.
2. EssayGenius
EssayGenius is the closest swap: an essay editor where the outline, sources, notes, citations and version history stay attached to the essay. Sources come from academic databases such as OpenAlex and Crossref, with DOIs and links, and you can import from Zotero. You can start without an account, and the free plan covers unlimited essays, citations in every major style, Word and PDF export, and a Process Report.
It isn't a pure editor. EssayGenius says it has “no one-click ‘write the whole essay’ button”, yet the free plan includes one full essay draft and Pro unlimited ones. Pro is $15 a month or $40 for a four-month Semester Pass, and source discovery and citation integrity checks are Pro-only.

EssayGenius public homepage, signed out. Best for: Students who want sources, notes and drafts in one place, with a record of how the essay was written.
3. Jenni AI
Jenni AI is for writing with your sources open beside you. Upload PDFs, import from Zotero or Mendeley, or search its 200M+ papers; its AI chat answers questions about your library with citations, and each suggested sentence links to the spot in the PDF it came from. Citations format in 10,000+ styles.
Autocomplete writes sentence by sentence. GPTZero's reviewer (GPTZero sells a detector) wrote a 250-word introduction mostly by accepting its suggestions, and a detector flagged all of it. You can restrict it to your own library. Paid plans run $12 a month (Plus) and $29 (Pro), and billing is the most common complaint on Trustpilot.

Jenni AI editor, signed in to a free account. Best for: Students who want suggestions and citations tied to papers they've uploaded.
4. Grammarly
Grammarly handles the same features differently. It has a Humanizer and an AI Detector too, but says the Humanizer “is not intended to bypass AI detectors.” It also offers Authorship, which records whether text was typed, pasted or AI-assisted, with a replay and a report you choose whether to share.
AI Grader estimates a grade against your rubric with feedback, and Citation Finder suggests web sources in APA, MLA or Chicago. Docs and most agents are free with daily limits; Pro adds plagiarism and AI-text detection for $144 a year or $30 month to month. Its agents can draft text into the editor if you ask.

Grammarly doc with Grammarly's built-in demo essay, signed in to a free account. Best for: Students who want feedback, and a record of their own writing process, free to start.
5. Paperpal
Paperpal is an academic editor for a draft you've written. It suggests grammar and tone fixes trained on scholarly edits, runs 30+ pre-submission checks, and checks plagiarism against 99B+ sources. It works inside Word, Google Docs and Overleaf, and its Research and Cite search covers 250M+ articles.
Free gives you 200 grammar edits a month and lite plagiarism and AI-detection reports. Prime and Pro are billed monthly or annually, but the pricing page showed no prices when checked. It will also draft “with suggestions grounded in your sources”, so it's an editor that can write when asked.

Paperpal editor on its built-in sample document, signed in to a free account. Best for: Polishing your own essay and checking it for plagiarism before it goes in.
6. Thesify
Thesify's Reviewer reads a finished draft and returns structured feedback on argument, clarity and methodology, against rubrics for thesis strength, evidence and alignment with the assignment. It takes documents of up to 100,000 words. Thesify says uploads are never shared, sold or used to train AI.
There's no free plan. Reviewer costs €14.95 a review, or €24.95 a month for three, and unused reviews roll over. Its FAQ says it won't write your paper, though the newer Coauthor workspace has drafting agents. Even a competitor's review noted that independent reviews of Thesify are thin.

Thesify reviewer, signed in to a free account, before any document is uploaded. Best for: A structured critique of a long draft while there's still time to act on it.
7. Trinka
Trinka checks grammar, punctuation and academic style, with style-guide corrections for APA, AMA, ACS, AGU and IEEE on paid plans. Its Citation Checker validates your references against Crossref and flags retracted, hallucinated and predatory ones, which is the check any AI-assembled reference list needs.
It won't find sources or structure an argument. Basic is free for good, with 5,000 words of writing help a month in lite grammar mode; Premium is $48 a year, and monthly billing exists without a shown price. Trustpilot reviewers credit it with better grammar and academic tone, and complain most about the free limits.

Trinka editor on its built-in demo file, signed in to a free account. Best for: Students who want their academic English checked and their reference list verified.

FAQ
- Is MyEssayWriter.ai free?
- You get one free essay of up to 1,500 words with citations, advertised as needing no sign-up, email or card. After that, Starter is $9.99 a month for 50,000 generated words and Unlimited is $24.99, with lower monthly rates on annual billing.
- Is it OK to use MyEssayWriter.ai's human writers?
- It sells human-written essays “delivered in 3 hours”. An essay someone else wrote for you, by hand or by model, isn't your work, and that's the line your school's integrity policy draws.
- How should I use an essay generator, if at all?
- Treat any generated essay like a model answer: read it for structure, close it, and write your own. Check every citation it offers. MyEssayWriter.ai's own output tells you to check each one before submitting.
- Which of these alternatives can I start for free?
- EssayGenius (no account needed), Grammarly, Jenni AI, Paperpal and Trinka all have free plans, each with its own limits. Thesify is the exception: no free plan, and Reviewer has no trial.
