Trinka vs Yomu AI: draft with one, or check with the other?

These tools work at different stages of a paper. Yomu AI is where a draft gets made: it searches for sources, inserts citations and will write a full, researched draft if you ask. Trinka is where a finished draft gets checked: grammar, academic style and the references themselves.

If you want to write the paper yourself and need it to read well, Trinka is the better fit, and Trinka Premium costs less per year than Yomu Pro. If you want help assembling sources and text in one editor, and your course allows AI drafting, Yomu is the one built for it.

Finding sources versus checking them

Yomu cites from the sources saved in your library, which you can reuse across documents, or from sources its Sourcely-powered search finds for you, formatted in 700+ citation styles. You can chat with PDFs, images and web search too. A review based on public information liked having all of this in one workspace but warned that the citations still need checking against the sources.

Trinka leaves the finding to you. Its Citation Checker validates the references you already have against Crossref and flags retracted, hallucinated and predatory ones, and its Citation Formatter works on the same list. Those citation tools spend credits. Put another way: Yomu can hand you a reference, and Trinka can tell you whether a reference is real.

Who writes the sentences

On the Yomu side, the AI can do most of the writing. Its Document Assistant helps “write entire sections”, and a new document can start as “a full, researched draft” built from your description. Yomu's ethics statement says the tool should sit beside a student's own writing rather than replace it.

Trinka mainly corrects and paraphrases what you wrote. It does offer “Write & Rewrite with AI”, capped by monthly requests: 5 on the free plan, 25 on Premium, 1,000 on Premium Plus. Whichever you use, your course's AI policy decides how much of that is allowed.

Two kinds of feedback

Since September 2026, Yomu has had Get Feedback, which runs focused academic reviews of your draft that you can preview and then apply in the editor. Preview first: an applied suggestion rewrites your text, and the result should still sound like you.

Trinka's feedback is line by line: grammar, punctuation, academic tone, and APA, AMA, ACS, AGU and IEEE style-guide corrections on paid plans. Trustpilot reviewers credit it with improving manuscripts and theses. A test by Originality.ai, which sells a grammar checker, found it caught many errors but missed misspellings such as “bussiness” and “atract”.

Where you work, and who sees your text

Trinka runs in Microsoft Word, the browser, a Windows app and on LaTeX files. Its Confidential Data plan promises no data storage and no AI training on your text. Yomu is its own editor, and on paid plans you choose among models from several AI providers for chat and editing.

What a year costs

Compare them on annual billing, the basis both publish. Trinka Premium is $48 a year. Yomu Pro is $10 a month billed annually, or $120 a year, with 1,000 AI actions a month; Ultra is $204 a year and unlimited. Trinka Premium Plus, at $125 a year, is just above Yomu Pro, and the Confidential Data plan is $300. On monthly billing, Trinka Premium is $20, Yomu Pro $21 and Ultra $35. Trinka's $48 is a discount, shown as 40% off a listed $80.

Trinka has a free plan that never expires: 5,000 words of writing help, 5 AI writing requests and 4 credits a month, with grammar in lite mode. Those limits are its most common complaint. Yomu lists no free plan for its editor, though its pricing FAQ says you can start for free to try the service. Yomu's one Trustpilot review complains about a renewal without notice, so note the date you signed up.

Which should you choose?

Choose Trinka if you've written the paper yourself and want it to read like academic English, with a check that none of your references is retracted or invented. The free Basic plan is enough to try it.

Choose Yomu AI if you want one editor for finding sources, citing them in hundreds of styles and getting feedback on the draft, and you're comfortable deciding how much of its drafting your course allows.

If you want Yomu's source-to-draft workflow without the AI writing the draft, EthiWrite, which we make, is built that way: it cites only from sources in your Library and won't write paragraphs from a prompt. That makes it slower than Yomu when you're short of time.
