Visit Writesonic

One edits your sentences, the other writes articles

Writefull works on text you've written. Its language feedback comes from models trained on published papers, it checks language directly in LaTeX source inside Overleaf, and it can generate LaTeX tables and equations. There's also a paraphraser and title and abstract generators.

Writesonic starts from a topic and produces the whole piece. Its AI Article Writer turns out “3,000 to 8,000 words” after analysing search results and competitor pages, in what it calls “The Agentic Content Pipeline”. Every paid plan pairs it with AI-visibility tracking and site audits.

Here's a quick way to tell which you need. If you start with a document you wrote, Writefull has something to do with it. If you start with a keyword you'd like a brand to rank for, that's Writesonic's territory. A student essay is the first kind every time.

How far each goes in writing for you

Writesonic writes complete articles end to end. That's its product. It's aimed at marketing content, not coursework, and a SoftwareReviews user says it “isn't very good at writing academic essays/articles”.

Writefull is mostly an editor, with a few generators on the side: the Abstract Generator, Title Generator and Ask AI produce new text when asked. Its site also promotes a separate Papers AI product to “Draft the whole manuscript”. If you use those, treat the output as AI-written under your institution's rules.

Citations and sources

Writefull leaves your sources alone: finding, managing and formatting them is up to you. Writefull Cite flags sentences that need a citation and have none, but it's sold to institutions only.

Writesonic's article writer says “Every claim backed by a first-party source before publish”, drawing on a bank that excludes competitor blogs and SEO-spam aggregators. Those are web pages chosen for marketing, not scholarly papers; no academic citation styles are listed, and it doesn't cite from your own library. The same SoftwareReviews user asks it for a citation generator for “facts validation”. For a reference list, you'd still need a reference manager.

Feedback, and what users say

Writefull's main job is feedback on your language. LaTeX users on r/academia value that it understands Overleaf source, and one user's informal test ranked it alongside Grammarly. Others in the same thread found it correcting mathematics as prose, imposing a serial comma on British English or twisting meaning, so read each suggestion.

Writesonic doesn't describe feedback on a draft. Trustpilot reviewers praise how fast it produces content, while a marketing agency's review calls the output uneven and generic without detailed prompts and its factual accuracy inconsistent.

Price, free use and cancelling

On annual billing, Writefull Premium is US$150 a year. Writesonic Starter, at $79 a month billed annually, comes to $948 a year for 15 AI articles a month. Above Starter, Writesonic's Basic plan is $199 and Growth $399 a month, both billed annually, with more articles and seats. Writefull also shows a monthly price of US$21; Writesonic shows no monthly-billed prices.

Writefull has a free plan: a limited quota of each feature, which some users say runs out fast. Writesonic lists no free plan, only a 7-day free trial with no credit card. Both have billing complaints: some Writefull users report charges after cancelling, and Writesonic's Trustpilot reviewers describe the same, plus refused refunds on annual plans.

Writefull also says it never stores your text or uses it to train its AI, and asks before sending text to third-party AI services. If your draft holds unpublished findings, that's worth weighing.

Which should you choose?

Choose Writefull if you're writing a paper or thesis yourself, especially in Overleaf, and want academic language edits. Start on the free quota, and pay US$150 a year if you need more.

Choose Writesonic if you produce marketing articles for a brand and want AI-visibility tracking with them. Run the 7-day trial before committing, and don't use it for coursework.

Writefull polishes the words but leaves the sources to you. If you'd like help with that part, EthiWrite, which we make, keeps a Library of your PDFs, OpenAlex papers, web pages and books, and cites only from it. Every quota on every EthiWrite plan is finite, including the free one.
